Hi! I’m Sutanya, the creator and host of the podcast Dinner for One. I’m a Jamaican-born, Bronx-raised, American living in Paris’s best arrondissement, le 18ème.
When my marriage ended I decided to hone in on my New Yorker-turned-Parisienne identity and get used to making dinner for one, à la française, as I explored being a 30-something divorcée in a foreign land trying to rebuild my life and identity.
I started this podcast because I wanted to add a different perspective to the ‘American in Paris’ narrative.
With the podcast, I try to remove the rosé-tinted glasses view of expat life in Paris by sharing the raw, funny, honest, and inspiring truth about what it’s like to overcome heartbreak and confidently follow one's own path all while living far away from the comforts and familiarity of home. I use food—making simple dinners for one—as the ultimate form of self-care. With every sprinkle of this, a dash of that, and slow stir I am nourishing my mind, body, and soul.
The podcast evolved by taking on a new shape in the form of the written word. My memoir Dinner for One: How Cooking in Paris Saved Me was published on June 21, 2022
Dinner for One is co-produced by a fellow New Yorker turned Parisienne, the lovely and talented Lory Martinez. The show’s logo and visual identity was designed and created by the fiercely talented Parisienne turned Londoner, Tiffanie Delune.
